This human design chart calculator turns your birth date, exact birth time, and birth place into a complete BodyGraph, the diagram at the center of the Human Design system, and it does the whole thing in your browser without asking for an email. From your birth data it works out your Type, your Strategy, your Authority, your Profile, which of the nine centers are defined, and which of the 64 gates and 36 channels are switched on. The full chart appears at once, free, with nothing locked behind a paywall, and your birth details never leave your device. This page explains what a human design chart is, where the system comes from, how the calculation works including the unusual two-date method, and how to read what comes back.
Human Design is a young system with an old vocabulary. It was first shared in 1987 by a teacher known as Ra Uru Hu, and it stitches together four traditional bodies of knowledge, Western astrology, the Chinese I Ching, the Hindu chakra system, and the Kabbalist Tree of Life, along with language borrowed from modern genetics and physics. The result is presented as a kind of map of your energy and your best way of making decisions. It is not a science, and this page does not treat it as one. It is a rich symbolic tool that a lot of people find genuinely useful for reflection.
What a human design chart is
At the center of Human Design sits a single diagram called the BodyGraph. It looks like a body drawn as a circuit board: nine geometric shapes called centers, joined by lines called channels, which are made up of numbered gates. When you generate your chart, some of those centers are colored in and some are left white, some channels light up and some stay dormant, and out of that pattern the system reads a handful of headline results.
The headlines are your Type, your Strategy, your Authority, and your Profile. Your Type is one of five categories that describes your basic energetic design. Your Strategy is the simple approach to life that suits your Type. Your Authority is your most reliable inner guide for making decisions. Your Profile is a pair of numbers that describes the role you tend to play. Beneath those headlines lie the details: the defined and open centers, the active gates and channels, and the planetary activations that switched them on.
A human design chart is personal in the same way a birth chart is personal. It is built from the exact sky over the exact place and minute you were born, so it is yours and no one else's. Two people born hours apart, or in different cities, will usually get different charts, which is why the birth time and place matter so much.
Where the system comes from
Part of what makes a human design chart interesting is that it is a deliberate synthesis, a blend of several older systems laid on top of one another. Knowing the ingredients helps the diagram make sense.
From astrology it takes the planets and their exact positions in the sky. The same Sun, Moon, and planets that a natal chart uses appear here too, along with the lunar nodes, using precise astronomical data. From the I Ching, the ancient Chinese book of changes, it takes the 64 hexagrams, which become the 64 gates arranged around a wheel. Each planet, depending on where it sits, activates one of those gates, and each gate is further divided into six lines, again echoing the six lines of an I Ching hexagram. From the Hindu chakra system it takes the idea of energy centers in the body, though it reworks the traditional seven chakras into nine centers. From the Kabbalist Tree of Life it takes the notion of channels connecting those centers into a network. On top of all this it layers a modern vocabulary of genetic codons and quantum language.
You do not need to believe any of the source traditions to use the chart, and you do not need to study them to read your result. But it explains why a human design chart looks so unlike a normal horoscope. It is really several old maps folded into one new one.
The two calculations: Personality and Design
Here is the feature that sets a human design chart apart from an ordinary birth chart. It is built not from one moment but from two, and the tool has to calculate both.
The first moment is your exact birth time. Human Design calls this the Personality, draws it in black on the chart, and treats it as your conscious self, the part of you that you recognize and can talk about. This is the same instant a natal chart uses.
The second moment sits about 88 days before you were born, and this is the part that surprises people. It is not simply 88 days on the calendar. It is the moment when the Sun was exactly 88 degrees of arc earlier along the zodiac than it was at your birth. Because the Sun moves at a slightly uneven pace through the year, that works out to roughly 88 to 89 days, but the tool finds the exact instant by longitude, not by counting days. Human Design calls this the Design, draws it in red, and treats it as your body and your unconscious nature, the part that runs without your say-so.
Every gate and center in your chart is switched on by planetary activations from one or both of these two moments. The black Personality activations and the red Design activations are laid onto the same BodyGraph, and where they land decides everything that follows. Getting the 88 degree Design calculation exactly right is one of the trickiest parts of building a human design chart, and it is where cheaper tools sometimes go wrong.
The five Types
Your Type is the first thing most people want from a human design chart, and it comes from which centers are defined and how they connect, especially whether a motor center is wired to the Throat. There are five Types.
Generators are the most common Type. They have a defined Sacral center, the engine of the chart, which gives them steady, renewable life force for work they love. Generators are built to respond to life rather than push at it, and they feel satisfaction when they follow that.
Manifesting Generators share the defined Sacral of a Generator but also have a motor wired through to the Throat, which lets them move quickly and juggle many things. They combine the Generator's staying power with a faster, more direct style.
Projectors do not have a defined Sacral. Instead they are designed to guide, manage, and see others clearly, and they work best when their gifts are recognized and invited rather than forced on people. They carry deep insight but need to manage their energy carefully.
Manifestors have a motor connected to the Throat but no defined Sacral. They are the initiators, built to start things and set them in motion, and they do best when they inform the people around them before they act.
Reflectors are the rarest Type, often cited at around one percent of people. They have no defined centers at all, so they sample and mirror the energy around them, and they are deeply affected by their environment and the cycles of the Moon.
Your Type is not a ranking and no Type is better than another. It is simply a description of how your energy is wired, and the point of knowing it is to stop fighting your own design.
Strategy and Authority
If Type is the label, Strategy and Authority are the parts of a human design chart that people actually put to use. They are the practical heart of the system.
Strategy is the way your Type is meant to engage with the world so that life meets you with less resistance. Generators and Manifesting Generators have a Strategy of responding, waiting for something real to react to rather than initiating from nothing. Projectors have a Strategy of waiting for the invitation, for recognition, before offering their guidance. Manifestors have a Strategy of informing the people affected before they act. Reflectors have a Strategy of waiting through a full lunar cycle, about 28 days, before a big decision. Each Strategy comes with a signpost feeling: satisfaction for Generators, success for Projectors, peace for Manifestors, and surprise for Reflectors, with frustration, bitterness, anger, and disappointment as the signs you are off track.
Authority is your inner decision-making guide, and Human Design ranks the possible sources in a fixed order based on which of your centers are defined. Emotional authority, from a defined Solar Plexus, asks you to wait out your emotional wave before deciding. Sacral authority, for Generators without emotional definition, trusts the gut response in the moment. Splenic authority trusts a quiet, one-time intuition. There are also ego, self- projected, and mental or environmental authorities, and for Reflectors a lunar authority. Your chart tells you which one is yours, and this is usually the single most useful line in the whole reading.
The nine centers
The nine centers are the shapes you see in the BodyGraph, and each governs a different area of life. In your chart each one is either defined, meaning colored in and consistent, or open, meaning white and receptive.
The Head center at the top is mental pressure and inspiration. The Ajna below it is the mind, how you think and form concepts. The Throat is communication and action, where things get expressed and made real. The G center in the middle is identity, love, and direction, your sense of who you are and where you are going. The Heart or Ego center is willpower, drive, and self-worth. The Sacral center is life force, work, and sexuality, the engine that defines Generators. The Solar Plexus is emotions and the emotional wave. The Spleen is intuition, health, and survival instinct. The Root is pressure, stress, and the drive to get things done.
A defined center is a source of reliable energy and a fixed way of operating that you can count on. An open center is more changeable, taking in and amplifying the energy of the people and places around you. Open centers are not weaknesses. They are where you are wise and flexible, but also where you are most open to being conditioned by others, and much of the self-inquiry in Human Design happens around them.
Gates, channels, and your Profile
Beneath the centers sit the finer details of a human design chart: the gates, the channels, and the Profile.
The 64 gates are the numbered points that ring the BodyGraph, one for each hexagram of the I Ching. Each planet in each of your two calculations sits in one gate, switching it on. A channel is a connection between two specific gates that bridges two centers, and there are 36 of them. A channel only activates when both of its gates are switched on, and when a channel activates, the two centers it touches become defined. This is the mechanism behind the whole chart: gates light up from the planets, some pairs of gates complete channels, and the completed channels are what define your centers and set your Type.
Your Profile is a smaller but much-loved detail. It is two numbers, such as 1/3, 3/5, or 4/6, taken from the line numbers of your Personality Sun and your Design Sun. Each gate is split into six lines, and each line has a personality: line one the Investigator who needs a foundation, line two the natural Hermit, line three the trial-and-error Martyr, line four the relationship-based Opportunist, line five the projected Heretic, and line six the Role Model. The first number is your conscious role and the second is your unconscious one, and together they sketch how you tend to learn and show up.
Your Definition
One more headline you will see is your Definition, which describes how your defined centers hang together. If all your defined centers connect into one unbroken group, you have a Single Definition. If they form two separate groups with a gap between them, you have a Split Definition, and there are Triple and Quadruple Splits for more fragmented wiring. Reflectors, with no defined centers, have no Definition at all. Definition is a subtle part of the chart, but it hints at how integrated or how bridging your energy feels, and whether you tend to look to others to close certain gaps.
How to use the ToolFiddle human design chart calculator step by step
The tool is quick, and it needs only the three facts about your birth.
Step one, enter your birth date. Give the day, month, and year you were born.
Step two, enter your exact birth time. Use the time on your birth certificate, as precise as you can, ideally to the minute. This is the most important field, because your Type, Authority, and Profile can all change with the hour, and the 88 degree Design calculation is anchored to it.
Step three, enter your birth place. Type your city, or provide the latitude and longitude. The location sets the chart correctly and lets the tool work out the right historical time zone for converting your birth time.
Step four, read your chart. The BodyGraph appears at once, with your Type, Strategy, Authority, Profile, and Definition stated in plain words at the top, your defined centers colored in, and your active gates and channels marked. The two sets of planetary activations, the black Personality and the red Design, are listed so you can see exactly what switched on each part. From there you can recompute with a corrected time or run a fresh chart for someone else.
How to read your human design chart
A BodyGraph can look like a wiring diagram at first, so it helps to read it from the top down rather than trying to take it in all at once.
Start with your Type and Strategy. These are the big picture, and for many people the Strategy alone, respond, wait for the invitation, inform, or wait a cycle, is the single most practical takeaway. Sit with whether it matches how life tends to go well or badly for you.
Next, learn your Authority. This is your personal decision-making tool, and it is worth more than any other single line in the chart. If you have emotional authority, the message is to sleep on big choices. If you have sacral or splenic authority, the message is to trust a fast inner signal. Try it as an experiment rather than a rule.
Then look at your defined centers, the colored shapes. These are your consistent strengths, the parts of you that run the same way whoever you are with. After that, glance at your open, white centers, which are where you are flexible and where you may pick up the moods and pressures of others.
Finally, if you enjoy detail, read your Profile and explore your gates and channels. These add texture and are fun to sit with, but the Type, Strategy, and Authority carry most of the practical weight. Read the whole chart as a description to try on, not a verdict to obey.
Real ways people use a human design chart
People come to a human design chart for different reasons, and there is no single correct way to use it.
Many use it as a decision-making experiment. The core suggestion in Human Design is to follow your Strategy and Authority for a while and simply notice whether life feels smoother. Used this way it is a gentle behavioral nudge, wait a beat, sleep on it, respond rather than force, dressed in colorful language.
Some use it for self-understanding and self-acceptance. Reading that your energy is not built to grind the way a Generator grinds, or that your open emotional center soaks up the room, can put words to something you already sensed and take some pressure off.
Others use it in relationships and at work, as a way to appreciate that people are wired differently. A Projector partner who needs recognition and a Generator partner who needs to respond are not being difficult, they are being themselves, and the shared vocabulary can ease that.
And plenty of people use a human design chart purely out of curiosity and enjoyment, the same way they might explore a birth chart or a personality quiz. All of these are fair. The tool gives you an accurate chart, and what you take from it is up to you.
Common questions and misconceptions
A few misunderstandings come up often, and clearing them makes a human design chart easier to hold sensibly.
The first is that Human Design is scientifically proven. It is not. It is a symbolic system assembled in the late twentieth century, and while the planetary math behind it is real astronomy, the meanings are a belief framework. Enjoy it as reflection, not as fact or diagnosis.
The second is that your Type limits you. A Type does not stop you from doing anything. It describes a way your energy tends to work best, and people of every Type do every kind of work and live every kind of life. It is a lens, not a cage.
The third is that a rough birth time is good enough. Because Type, Authority, and Profile can all flip with the hour, an uncertain time can hand you the wrong headline results entirely. If your time is a guess, hold the whole chart loosely, and this tool will say so rather than pretending to a precision it does not have.
The fourth is that the open centers are flaws to fix. In Human Design the open centers are sources of wisdom and flexibility, not defects. The invitation is to notice where you take on others' energy, not to close yourself off.
Private by design
Your birth date, birth time, and birth place are among the most personal details you have, and together they can identify you. On many Human Design sites those details go into a form that sends them to a server, where they can be stored, tied to an email address, and used in ways you never see. This human design chart calculator works the other way around. The entire calculation, both the Personality and the 88 degree Design, runs inside your own browser on your own device. Your birth details are used to draw the BodyGraph and then they are gone. Nothing is uploaded, nothing is saved to any account, and you are never asked for an email to see your chart. There is nothing for anyone to collect, because your sensitive birth data stays with you.
The full chart, free, with no wall
A common pattern on Human Design sites is to show you a taste, your Type and maybe your Strategy, and then put the rest, the Authority, the Profile, the centers, the gates, the detailed meanings, behind a payment or an email signup. This tool does not do that. When your chart appears, it is the complete chart. Your Type, Strategy, Authority, Profile, and Definition. Every defined center. Every active gate and channel. Both sets of planetary activations. It is all there on the first screen, free, with no account, no email gate, and no upsell to a paid full reading. What the calculator can compute, it shows you, and the contrast with the teaser sites is the whole point.
Instant, unlimited, and on any device, even offline
Because the calculation runs on your device rather than a distant server, your BodyGraph appears the instant you finish entering your birth details, with no waiting. You can recompute as often as you like, adjusting a birth time you are unsure of, and you can run as many separate charts as you want for family and friends, all with no account and no limit. It works the same on a phone, a tablet, or a computer, in any modern browser, with nothing to install. Once the page has loaded it keeps working even if your connection drops, since everything it needs runs locally. The page stays light because it is not loaded down with the tracking and advertising scripts that slow so many free chart sites.

A short recap
A human design chart, or BodyGraph, is built from your birth date, exact birth time, and birth place, and it maps the planets onto 64 gates and 9 centers to give you a Type, a Strategy, an Authority, a Profile, and a Definition. It is unusual in using two moments, your birth for the Personality and a point 88 degrees of solar arc earlier for the Design, and the tool calculates both precisely in your browser. Read it from the top down, starting with Type, Strategy, and Authority, and treat it as a symbolic tool for reflection and experiment rather than proven science. Here the full chart is free with no email, your birth data stays on your device, and you can run as many charts as you like on any device.
